Fall 2024 Volleyball Information
Hello BIG 8 Volleyball Parents,
We hope everyone’s school year is off to a great start so far!
Information for GIRLS:
As a reminder, tryouts are Tuesday, September 3rd, and Thursday, September 5th . Times and locations vary by school and are listed below:
Carmel Valley Middle School: CVMS Gym- 8th Grade: 3:00p.m.-4:00p.m., 7th Grade 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m.
Diegueno Middle School:
Tryouts and practices for Diegueno will be held at: Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Harper Clubhouse- 533 Lomas Santa Fe, Solana Beach, 8th grade at 3:30p.m. and 7th at 4:30p.m.
Earl Warren Middle School: Earl Warren Gym, 8th Grade: 3:00p.m-4:00p.m., 7th grade 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m.
Oak Crest Middle School:
Tryouts and practices for the Oak Crest team will be held at our Griset Clubhouse: 8th grade 3:00-4:00p.m., 7th grade 4:00-5:00p.m.
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito’s Griset Clubhouse Gym (1221 Encinitas Blvd., Encinitas, CA 92024)
Pacific Trails Middle School: PTMS Gym, 8th Grade: 3:00p.m.-4:00p.m., 7th Grade 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m.
Information for BOYS:
All five schools will tryout Wednesday, September 9th and 11th at WAVE Volleyball Club ( 15555 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA 92014) 5:45-6:45p.m. Practices and games for this program will be Mondays and Wednesdays 5:45p-6:45p.m. at WAVE for the duration of the season.
What to wear:
Athletes can wear athletic attire to tryouts and practices, no special clothing is necessary.
How do I find out if my player made the team?:
Volleyball is a cut sport. For girls 10-12 players will make the team for each grade level. For Boys, we anticipate having one team per school. Final rosters will be posted on bgcsandiegutioathletics.org on Friday evening the week of tryouts after 6:30p.m. Once rosters are posted, we automatically bill team members. There are no refunds once the rosters are posted. If for some reason your athlete is no longer interest in volleyball, please email efroelich@bgcsandieguito.org by Thursday to ensure they do not receive a spot on the team and you are not billed.
Remember, there is no fee to tryout. If your student does not make the team, you will not be charged.
What to expect after tryouts:
For those that make the team, practices will continue Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the same time as above for the duration of the season for girls, and Mondays and Wednesdays for boys.
Games for girls will be on Tuesdays/Thursdays after a few weeks of practice and will start at 4pm and 5pm, with 8th grade always getting the earlier timeslot. Once tryouts have concluded and we have confirmed the total number of teams, we will post the official game schedule. For Boys, games for this program will be Mondays and Wednesdays 5:45p-6:45p.m. at WAVE for the duration of the season.
IMPORTANT for BOYS PARTICIPANTS : WAVE requires any athletes using the facility to fill out their separate waiver in addition to the Boys & Girls Clubs registration which you can do electronically here: https://wavevb.com/boys-girls-club-waiver/ If you have not already completed it, please do so prior to tryouts Monday.
