Hello BIG 8 Boys Basketball Parents,
As a reminder, tryouts are December 2nd, 3rd, 5th . Our 8th graders will tryout first from 3:00p.m.-4:00p.m. and 7th grade from 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m. 7th graders whose parents are not able to pick them up and bring them back are welcome to sit quietly in the gym and work on homework until their timeslot.
Tryouts will take place in the gym at your child’s school EXCEPT FOR:
Oak Crest– tryouts and practices take place at Boys & Girls Club- located next to the school at 1221 Encinitas Blvd. Students can walk down the hill out the back gate of campus.
What to wear:
Athletes can wear athletic attire to tryouts and practices, no special clothing is necessary. For those that make the team, jerseys are provided.
How do I find out if my player made the team?:
Boys Basketball is a cut sport, 10-12 players will make the team for each grade level. Final rosters will be posted on https://bgcathletics.org/big8/ on Friday evening (after 6p.m.) Once rosters are posted, we automatically bill team members. There are no refunds once the rosters are posted. If for some reason your athlete is no longer interest in basketball, please email efroelich@bgcgreatertogether.org by Thursday to ensure they do not receive a spot on the team and you are not billed. EVEN IF THEY DO NOT ATTEND TRYOUTS- you must notify the office at efroelich@bgcgreatertogether.org by Thursday so ensure you are not charged.
Remember, there is no fee to tryout. If your student does not make the team, you will not be charged. Be sure to select “Pay on Custom Date” at check out to ensure you are not billed at the time of registration. If you select the pay now option it will charge you immediately.
What to expect after tryouts:
For those that make the team practices will continue Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 8th graders from 3:00p.m.-4:00p.m. and 7th grade from 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m.
Games Mondays and Thursdays after a few weeks of practice and will start at 4pm and 5pm, with 8th grade always getting the earlier timeslot. Once tryouts have concluded and we have confirmed the total number of teams, we will post the official game schedule.
On game days, athletes only have a game, no practice.
Transportation is not provided by BGC. Getting athletes to and from practices and games is the responsibility of parents.
Jerseys Jerseys are included in the total program fee and are in adult sizes. Once the season is over, the jersey is yours to keep.
CAMPUS CLOSURES & HOLIDAYS
We follow the school calendar. Whenever there is a school closure or holiday break, we are also on break. Ex- we do not run during winter break.
RAIN & WEATHER
Our executive director will assess the fields on rainy days or days directly proceeding bad weather and make the call by noon as to whether or not practice is on. Notifications for cancellations will come via email between 12p.m.-12:30p.m. on those days.
